The DVD Shelf...

I really like this little shelf.  It has served multiple purposes, including : a utility shelf for my laundry room, a bookshelf during college, and now I have painted it a lovely red shade and transformed it to comfortably contain my DVDs and my family photo albums.

But as you can see, it is not the prettiest sight you ever did see.  Clutter is a huge pet peeve of mine, and I had to create a solution to this bothersome sight.

Using some left over fabric from the Kitchen Island curtains, I was able to sew together just one simple piece to hang over the front of the shelf to completely camouflage the junk!  Wa hoo!  Problem solved!!!  On to more important projects!  Until next time, happy restoring!

My new Kitchen Island!

My hubby and father-in-law built this kitchen island for me because I was in serious need of some additional storage space in my small...but useable kitchen. :)
It did add storage space, but it was lacking the ability to disguise the junk I had intended to hid...so I improvised and created this cute-but-functional curtains!   The photo does not do it justice, but I absolutely love how well it turned out!

The 70's-style wooden chest

Most recently I wanted to update an old chest formerly used while in college.  It was my mini-entertainment center (he he).  I was tempted to use a mint-green color, but hesitated...so my girlfriends encouraged me to use a  "cabin red" color, that happened to match a rug that I currently using in my living room...Perfect!!!  I also used some sandpaper to give it an old antique look.  Here are the before and after photos.  Please feel free to comment.  Happy Restoring!
